Formulate a Focus

From your questions and investigation from tertiary and secondary sources, how do you need to tweak your investigation?

Think deeply!!

Move into specific resources away from the general.

Ask your peers, teacher or teacher-librarian for feedback.

Select Information

Are you using the best sources to answer your questions?

How do you know these are the best sources?

Consider the Currency, Relevancy, Authority, Accuracy and Purpose of your sources. That's the CRAAP* Test

Primary (original sources, statistics, photos, maps)

Secondary (how have others written and discussed your topic? How have they come to their conclusions?

Tertiary (encyclopedias, almanacs)

Use the web but remember books and things that are available in this library, at the Ottawa Public Library (OPL) and at Carleton University and the University of Ottawa.

Be sure to look through the databases as well. Click here for a video from Yavapai College Library

*The CRAAP test was devised at the Chico Campus of California State University.
